My Background

I'm a seasoned educator with over 15 years of experience in higher education and over 20 years of teaching and training experience. With a background in teaching, instructional design, technology, business, and coaching, I bring a deep understanding of pedagogy/andragogy, instructional design, and student engagement strategies to support learning environments that lead to student success.

My Philosophy and Framework

I see three key components that make up a learning environment: courses, faculty, and students. 

Courses should be designed following established quality standards. In my experience, I often refer to the standards provided by SUNY's OSCQR Rubric and Quality Matters Standards for course design. 

In higher education, faculty are typically hired as subject matter experts. They need to learn how to transform their expertise into teachable content so that students can learn. I believe that faculty require training in instructional strategies, best practices, lesson and program planning, classroom management, and technology integration at a minimum. 

Lastly, students need to be prepared to learn, which necessitates having the necessary prior knowledge to be successful with the course content and possessing fundamental digital literacy skills to navigate today's learning spaces (online and in classrooms).
